Girls basketball: K-Park’s Byrd hopes to build on strong freshman campaign

For five years now, the Kingwood Park girls basketball roster has featured the last name Byrd.

After Allie Byrd — the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in K-Park history — graduated in May her freshman sister Biva earned a spot on varsity.

Biva Byrd said she’s learning to be a contributor at the high school level. She was named as a first-team all district player as a freshman.

“It’s really different,” said Biva Byrd on playing high school basketball. “Like middle school is just easier I guess. In high school basketball you’re playing against harder players and tough teams. It’s harder to play against, but once you get used to it, it’s just basketball.”

Not much was expected for the Lady Panthers this season after losing eight seniors, including the standout Allie Byrd.
